2 October 2023 AMP Training Package Update
We’ve got some exciting news to share that could significantly impact your training organisation. The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) has some fresh updates on extended transition periods for the Australian Meat Processing (AMP) training package.
ASQA—Putting Students First
First things first, you might be wondering why ASQA would even consider extending transition periods. Under the Guidance for Providers—Learner Transition, ASQA will only entertain the idea of a longer transition period when it’s crystal clear that a group of learners would face genuine disadvantages without it. They’re all about ensuring the best outcomes for students.
Affected Qualifications in the AMP Training Package Update
In line with efforts towards ensuring learners have equal opportunities, ASQA greenlit an extended transition period for the following AMP qualifications:
- AMP30316 – Certificate III in Meat Processing (Meat Safety)
- AMP30616 – Certificate III in Meat Processing (General)
- AMP30716 – Certificate III in Meat Processing (Quality Assurance)
- AMP40415 – Certificate IV in Meat Processing (Quality Assurance)
- AMP40516 – Certificate IV in Meat Processing (Meat Safety)
These extensions mean that the transition period for training, assessment, and certification issuance for these qualifications has been stretched from 24 January 2024 to 31 January 2025.
Keep in mind that this decision applies to a specific student cohort. It covers students officially starting their training and/or assessment on or before 24 January 2024. These students must either wrap up their courses or switch to replacement qualifications by the new transition end date.
ASQA consulted with the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority as well as the Training Accreditation Council of Western Australia regarding these extended transition periods. Plus, they’ve chatted with Skills Insight, the Jobs and Skills Council responsible for the AMP Australian Meat Processing Training Package.
How the AMP Training Package Update Affects You
The affected qualifications will remain on your RTO’s scope of registration until the end of the extended transition period. ASQA is doing its part to ensure that learners get the best possible education and training without any undue stress. This extension means more flexibility and opportunities for your students; ultimately, that’s a win-win for everyone involved.
